Story
Calaveras Park staff are fully aware of this tree, so when a prescribed burn was scheduled for South Calaveras Grove for October of 2024, they thinned small trees near the tree and raked away bark build-up near the tree base. Now, the tree is as healthy as ever, which is surpising considering we have lost many large sugar pines following two major droughts and subsequent beetle attacks over the past 15 years.
